Cheap Airline Tickets – Tips and Hacks

October 8, 2024 by Namalee Siriwardhane with 0 comments

Here are a few websites where you can check out inexpensive airline tickets

www.Skyscanner.com – is a popular website with many options. They have flights to and from Sri Lanka rated by ‘best’, ‘cheapest’, and ‘fastest’. Prices are expressed in SLR, so it is easier to choose. The lowest prices for economy class are based on most recent fares. They offer package deals including flight tickets, hotels, cars and possible vacation spots.

CheapOair.com – is another popular website also to and from Sri Lanka. They give the options of ‘best and cheapest options’, ‘recommended’, and ‘alternative dates’. Certain weekdays cost less, weekends usually cost more depending on the amount of people already booked on the flight. Charges are expressed in USD$, but there is a tab on the top left which will convert the prices for you. CheapOair offers up to $40+ off depending on flight and offers monthly payments with interest for 3 months at 15%, 6 and 12 months at 14.99%. They also offer the option to choose 500+ airlines for airfares, price matching, self-serving cancellations options online, and travel assistance.

Findmyfare.com – yet another website to and from Sri Lanka, offers options from ‘cheapest or fastest’, and ‘refundable, nonrefundable air-tickets’, with or without connections and stops. Prices for this website seem to be higher than the other two. It has features like airline, hotel and bank offers (here you can get special discounts if you pay through a certain bank), split payment options, discounts, bring a friend for free, children under 2 years get to fly for free, and weekend deals.

Flight-fare.com – also offers to and from Sri Lanka deals and basically has the same options as CheapOair. They do have some special offers from Sri Lankan Airlines and may have other special offers in the future. Payment is stated in USD$ and as in other websites, the conversion tab is found on the top left. Flight-fare also offers a look at stops, times, and duration of flight, airline chosen, airport chosen, and price.

These ticketing websites offer you flexibilities on your flight like first checked bags, prepaid baggage, weight system charges, changeable tickets, refundable tickets. One, some or all of these offers may be free, but more often there is a charge. There are also packages available which can include a lesser charge for hotels and car rentals and sightseeing options.

If you’re in need of travel, but don’t have the total amount in hand at the moment, there are monthly payments which some of the websites offer. The options are broken down into 3, 6 and 12 months and there is a hefty interest charge on top of that, of around 15% (depending on the website).

You can pre-book your flight by choosing the cheapest day of a certain month to travel. Some websites give a projected idea of the cheapest to the most expensive day to fly within a certain month. The cheapest month to travel varies depending on your choice of destination but seems to be between October and November for this year with prices rising in December due to holidays.

Waiting till the last minute can work wonders as airlines reduce the prices of unsold seats on flights. You can press ‘everywhere’ or ‘anywhere’ for great bargain deals IF where you go doesn’t matter to you. You can also download the app that best suits you to get price alerts. Some people recommend that you go on ‘incognito’ on Google when searching flights as getting on the dark web won’t put your search history out and this encourages the websites to keep their options low-priced.

Always research multiple options thoroughly as sometimes there may even be added discounts hidden away such as discounts for children, possible upgrades and even free flights. You just have to be on top of it.
