Emerging Women’s Clothing Brands in Sri Lanka…

November 5, 2024 by Jessica Mathias with 0 comments

Affordable, unique and lesser-known local clothing brands

Today we are showing some love to a few of our very own local clothing brands. Here are my top four great, yet lesser-known clothing brands in Sri Lanka that I came across over the past couple of years.

These emerging brands aren’t just making clothes; they’re telling stories and empowering themselves and our communities. Every piece you choose from one of these brands is more than just an outfit. It’s a piece of Sri Lanka, crafted with love and care.

The Cult Original

I think I found my favourite clothing brand in Sri Lanka. I almost didn’t write about it cause I wanted to keep it a secret… But I thought I should share this gem of a brand with as many ladies as possible. The Cult Original is one of those rare brands that offer luxurious pieces at affordable prices.

Their collections are designed to make you feel powerful, stylish, and unapologetically you. Their tops and shirts range from LKR 3000-4500, skirts and trousers range from LKR 3500-6000 and dresses from LKR 5000-9500 (They are totally worth the price. So cute, unique and the quality is great).

Watch out for their new collections… you won’t be disappointed! Currently, they only have an online store. However, I was told that the opening of the physical store is in the works. (Can’t wait…) You can explore their full clothing collection online.

Flamingo SL

If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe with some chic and cute pieces without breaking the bank, Flamingo SL is the place to be! I have shopped at Flamingo SL many times and they never disappoint.

This Sri Lankan brand offers a fantastic selection of trendy clothes that are perfect for any occasion. What makes Flamingo SL even more special is their commitment to supporting local design and businesses. They opened their first store this year and it is a testament to this commitment as there are many other local brands at the store. So while you shop for clothes at Flamingo SL you can also shop for accessories under one roof.

Their tops start from LKR 2000, dresses and trousers from LKR 4000, and skirts from LKR 2500. Check out their full range of clothes in-store or online.

Absolute Basics

I absolutely love Absolute Basics! Let me tell you why I love this Sri Lankan clothing brand. Sometimes all I want is to wear really comfortable clothes and look nice in them. I always pick my absolute basics tops and pants to do the job. They are made of high-quality, lightweight, and breathable fabrics and I absolutely love them. AB clothes are perfect for Sri Lanka’s tropical climate because they keep you cool and comfortable all day long. They offer comfortable and stylish pieces that are perfect for both casual outings and formal office settings. Another big plus is that the prices are very reasonable for the quality you’re getting.  Tops and t-shirts start from LKR 2700, dresses from LKR 5500, pants from LKR 4500 and there’s so much more to choose from. They have sales from time to time and prices drop even more.

Of course, don’t take my word for it… the best way to know if you’ll love it is to try it out for yourself. Their flagship store is down Galle Road in Colpetty and they also have a store in the One Galle Face Mall. You can always check out their online store too.

Maia

I found Maia two years ago when I stumbled upon their Christmas collection. It was so beautiful and elegant but had sold out by the time I wanted to order. Since then, I have ordered from Maia from time to time and it quickly became a favourite of mine for several reasons. Maia clothes have that classic look that never goes out of style, but they also have a modern twist that makes them feel elegant and current.

Maia prices are so reasonable, so it’s easy to justify investing in pieces that I’ll love for years to come. Their dresses are priced from LKR 5000 upwards.

Maia is definitely worth checking out. It’s a brand that truly embodies the spirit of Sri Lankan fashion. I’m really hoping that Maia will come out with a collection this Christmas that’s similar to the one they had a couple of years ago. Fingers crossed!

These are just a few examples of the incredible talent thriving in Sri Lanka’s fashion scene, there are so many more. So this is an invitation to find local brands, buy pieces that resonate with you, and create your own unique style.

Happy shopping!
